Winyanboga Yurringa
Winyanboga Yurringa by Andrea James
Belvoir
On the bank of a great river, six Indigenous women gather. These women are connected by kinship, but their worlds are far apart, separated by space, opportunity, time…They think they’re together for a camping trip, a bit of fishing, a few yarns. But there’s important stuff amongst the hilarity. What it is to be safe. What it is to belong. Who owns stories. Where we’ve come from, and where we’re going. How do you reconnect with community, if you’ve been wrenched away?
Reviews
“Masterful direction from Anthea Williams reveals a production in proper command of its important subject matter.”
The Australian
“James’ play takes place in the present day, and in this sensitively directed production by Anthea Williams, proves itself a worthy instalment. It’s a warm and enveloping piece of theatre, thanks in large part to the cast members’ obvious ease with one another. The audience slips gratefully into the rhythms of their conversation and salty banter”
“Director Anthea Williams’ approach is not obviously sentimental, but she catches us unawares with a quiet power, to deliver a moving work about our Australian heritage.”
